Given the game's target demographic, I don't think this was the best decision and might turn off younger players. Gating progress behind collectables can be frustrating if you get to the first checkpoint and realize that you should have been collecting the gems the whole time. The only complaint that I would have is requiring a certain number of gems to complete the game. Each level also has a special challenge to complete that can be really fun to aim for. There's also a good amount of replayability due to the three gems hidden each level. Even though it's a seemingly simple puzzle game, it has dozens upon dozens of levels spanning three "episode" (plus a bonus). The sheer amount of content in this game is something to be commended as well. It's a bit less intuitive than touch controls, but it gets the job done. Touch blocks are able to be utilized with a gyroscope cursor similar to that in Super Mario Galaxy when playing in docked mode. Moving the game from the Wii U to the Switch didn't lose a whole lot in my opinion. Toad and Toadette are great protagonists and a lot of their animations and movements are really cute. Graphically, the game of course looks incredible. The entire game is really creative in how levels are crafted. The puzzles are really clever and the game is constantly throwing new mechanics at you. This puts the grand total at 82 levels altogether in Captain Toad on Nintendo Switch.5h 30m Progress Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker is a great puzzle game that spun off from Super Mario 3D World. This makes for a total of 64 levels in the main game, but there’s also an additional 18 that you unlock as post-game rewards, including the Super Mario Odyssey levels. The third, and final, book combines the two characters and contains 28 levels.

The first book has you playing as Toad and has 18 different levels, while the second has you playing as Toadette in 18 different levels. The bulk of Captain Toad’s levels are broken up into three different books. Of course, if you’ve just picked the game up or you’re considering it, you’re probably wondering how long Captain Toad will take you to finish and how many levels there are to beat. There’s a host of small changes made to the game, both graphically and mechanically, and a few brand new levels from Super Mario Odyssey as well. Each level in Captain Toad is a miniature diorama that you need to solve in order to collect the star at the end and carry on. Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker is the latest Wii U port to release on Nintendo Switch, and it’s the same charming puzzle game that fans know and love.
